What is body-affirming, weight-neutral personal training?

What should I expect from body-affirming, weight-neutral training?

I know, it’s a mouthful! My coaching style aims to go above and beyond the “stereotypical” portrayal of personal training of being heavily focused on weight loss and strength gain.

While there is nothing inherently wrong if someone has those goals, there is so much more to movement and fitness than that!

That is why I’ve decided to make sure my training is always weight-neutral (we won’t talk about calories or diets) and body-affirming (focused on how your body moves and feels, not how it looks – but if you’re feeling yourself, we can appreciate that too!).

I am here to help you appreciate what your body can do and live in your body comfortably and confidently. We’ll work on redirecting harmful self-talk and use motivational interviewing techniques to reframe societal expectations and the impact they have on self confidence.

No one should feel bad for the space they take up in the world.

Coaching is something I’ve been drawn to do nearly my entire life – I always come back to it and I find myself useful to others. In addition to having a natural “knack” for coaching, I’ve also committed to continue learning and becoming certified in necessary modalities. I believe that to be the best coach, I should have the proper experience and credentials to act within the scope of practice and work at a high standard of integrity.

So, what is C3? C3 is a program I focus my talents on, because I both see the benefits of a personal trainer, and believe the scope can be so much more beyond stereotypical personal training. During the four months we will work together, I’ll help you at your own pace. Every client will start off with a structural assessment to look at your posture, alignment, and body landmarks to determine where corrective movement may be helpful. We’ll talk about what movement goals you want to achieve. After that, I’ll propose a starting plan for corrective movement as “homework”. Don’t worry – you won’t need to go out and buy a gym membership or a ton of fancy equipment (unless you really want to). I believe in being creative with equipment and that movement doesn’t need to be expensive. If there is anything “crucial”, I will provide it for you!

There will be 2 long check-ins (60-90 minutes, in person or online) and 2 short check-ins (20-30 minutes, online or phone) each month – all individual appointments. I will also answer questions via email every night, so you can also ask questions and get an answer by the next day!

My training/coaching style won’t be for everyone. And that is ok. I am happy to help you in finding a professional who is better suited to your needs!

My goal is to help you feel confident in the movement habits you’ll build during our time together the next 4 months. Because movement is a habit, I hope you’ll feel confident in taking your plan and continuing to use corrective exercise and conditioning to help your body feel good and function safely and efficiently.
